This portfolio company has been written off per generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Infusion Innovations, Inc. (I3) is a La Jolla-based medical device company that manufactures closed-system transfer devices (CSTDs), syringe connectors that protect health workers from toxic spills or vapors while administering chemotherapy and other drugs to patients.
According to I3, over 15 years of research and more than 150 published papers have documented the health hazards and dangers of handling chemotherapy drugs by nurses and physicians. Exposure can lead to skin rashes, infertility, birth defects, and cancer.
Preventing hazardous materials from contact with health workers’ skin, I3’s Q-FLO connectors are FDA-approved and are manufactured for less than the cost of comparable CSTDs.
Infusion Innovations, Inc. had signed three purchase orders for its Q-FLO connectors with a major pharmaceutical distributor that services 100% of hospitals in the U.S., as well as specialty pharmacies, hemophilia centers, home healthcare companies, and retail pharmacies.
Ready to scale but without the needed revenue to prepay for the manufacturing of the connectors, I3 looked for an investment partner for bridge capital to fulfill the purchase orders.
This 6-month investment enables Infusion Innovations, Inc. to grow and hire more staff.
